Police Calls on Public to Report Digital Scams and Fraud via Hotline

PHNOM PENH: National Police Commissioner Sar Thet called on the public to contact the 24/7 Scam Hotline to report cases of digital fraud.

The Commissioner presided over a meeting of the working group on Banking and Financial Services to strengthen security and prevent financial crimes through technology and money laundering on the morning of January 31 at the Ministry of Interior.

He said that the public should cooperate to provide information in a timely manner to the Scam Hotline team, which has professional officers on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through the National Police Facebook page.

He also pointed out that in the modern era, many people have fallen into the trap of criminals through technology, facilitating the need for a working group to address the issues.

General Sar Thet also requested additional support from the private sector, especially banks and microfinance institutions, to cooperate with the National Police, to ensure effective crackdowns on digital crime. He said that technology fraud occurs every day, especially at the local level and noted that people are often ashamed to report that they have fallen victim to a scam. The hotline is meant to make it easier for people to file complaints.
